ICRA CEO Stephen Balkam Relocates To Washington DC
European Team Remains In Place, Including The Organisation's London-Based Chair
Stephen Balkam, CEO of ICRA is relocating to Washington DC in order to respond to the increased levels of interest in the concepts of filtering and labelling digital media in the North American market as a result of the increased exposure being given to the indecency debate in both the media and in Capitol Hill.
Although the move is designed to take advantage of a number of potentially favourable political circumstances in North America, ICRA will retain its status as international, non-profit organisation, with offices in the UK, along with representatives in both Germany and Spain. ICRA's European team will continue to offer the high levels of technical support and remain closely involved with a number of EU funded projects. Moreover, ICRA intends to appoint a European Director to be based in Brussels by the end of the year, both to further the organisation's ongoing European work and to explore new projects and partners in this growing market.
Tom Phillips, CEO of the GSM Association and current Chairman of the ICRA board, commented: "This is an excellent move for ICRA which now has an extremely well established European presence thanks to Stephen's tireless efforts of the last six years. With an excellent ICRA Europe team now in place and many ICRA members headquartered in Europe, it makes perfect sense for Stephen to make the move in order to continue to build momentum for our organisation on a global scale."
Stephen's new contact details will be:
