Inmedia supports ICRA

Inmedia, the independent global communications company, is supporting ICRA by providing free web hosting facilities at one of its UK teleports. With further support being provided by Inmedia's former colleagues at Kingston Communications, ICRA's online home is now a state-of-the-art tier 1 hosting centre just outside London.

Commenting on the move, ICRA's CEO, Stephen Balkam, said "This is an excellent indicator of ICRA's potential future as a multimedia digital content labelling organisation. We are delighted to be working with Inmedia and Kingston Communications on a range of projects, such as our labelling working group, and are naturally grateful for their generous offer of free web hosting in such a prestigious centre."

Inmedia provides worldwide satellite and terrestrial infrastructure for broadcasters, telecommunications carriers and enterprise. More used to playing out satellite television channels and providing the data transfer platforms for multi-national oil companies and financial institutions, Inmedia's action is a welcome broadening of support for ICRA's work.

"Adding machine-readable labels (metadata) for the purpose of child protection is perhaps the classic example of an idea whose time has come." Commented Mark Cronin, Inmedia's Technology Director. "Our company is in the forefront of developing metadata technologies which play an increasingly pivotal role in a multi-channel world. Supporting ICRA's efforts to create a cross-platform content labelling system that is applicable around the world is an obvious thing for us to do."

The new ICRA website is wholly or partly available in 7 languages, including two variants of Chinese. The site's design and navigation have been significantly improved, partly as a result of collaborative work with ICRA and Inmedia's webmasters.
