CompTIA Joins ICRA
To Promote Child Protection & Free Speech Through Self Regulation Of The Internet
Leading IT Trade Association Supports Self-Labelling
CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association), a global trade association representing the business interests of the information technology industry, has joined ICRA as a board member to help promote child protection and free speech rights through the self-regulation of the digital content production and delivery industries.
For more than 23 years CompTIA has provided research, networking and partnering opportunities to its 20,000 members in 102 countries. The association is involved in developing standards and best practices, and influencing the political, economic and educational arenas that impact IT worldwide.
CompTIA's new status as a member bestows a place on the ICRA Board of Directors, providing the opportunity to participate directly in its future development. CompTIA will support ICRA's work to encourage digital media providers to describe their content using machine-understandable labels that empower end users to customize their multimedia experiences.
In addition to CompTIA, ICRA's global membership base consists of first-class corporate citizens that demonstrate commitment to child safety online, including AOL Europe, Bell Canada, BT Openworld, the GSM Association, IA Japan, MadeSafe, Microsoft, PAGi, T-Online and Verizon.
Roger Cochetti, Group Director of U.S. Public Policy for the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), commented: "CompTIA wholeheartedly believes in the validity of the ICRA system as it delivers parents with an effective way to ensure that their child's online experience is safe and free of offensive material."
Stephen Balkam, CEO of ICRA, added: "As a world leading trade organisation, CompTIA is a superb addition to our membership base, providing access to many more potential influencers which represents an excellent means of continuing to generate momentum for ICRA."
