Since April 1999 he is Vice Chairman of the Internet Content Rating Association.

As General Counsel and Head of the Legal Department of the Deutsche Telekom Online Service GmbH at Darmstadt, the largest European ISP, Mr. Banzhaf covers all legal affairs relating to the company and its service “T-Online” since the company started its operational business in September 1996.

In March 1994 he became the General Counsel and Head of the Legal Department of the newly founded Deutsche Telekom Systemlösungen GmbH at Frankfurt/Main. At this time the company served predominantly the top two hundred German customers of the Deutsche Telekom AG for whom customized telecommunication network solutions had been developed and maintained.

From 1990 to 1994 Mr. Banzhaf was as Counsel of Alcatel SEL AG member of the Legal Contractual Department at Stuttgart. His main task was the legal tracking of international projects for the sale, the transportation and the erection of transmission and switching equipment (hardware and software) for telecommunication facilities as well as the training of the respective local staff, mainly in Asia and Africa. Furthermore he counseled projects for telecommunication services and software licenses within Europe and North America.

From 1987 to 1990 Mr. Banzhaf worked as Staff Manager Legal Affairs (Foreign Countries) for the holding of a German group of insurance companies at Düsseldorf. He established joint venture companies in several European countries and advised operational subsidiaries abroad on legal issues.

During his studies of law and criminology at the Eberhard-Karls University in Tübingen Jürgen Banzhaf worked as research assistant at the university’s Institute for Criminology. In 1986 he spent a stage at the German-Canadian Chamber of Commerce at Montréal. In 1984 and 1987 he obtained two degrees in law. He was born and educated in Germany.
